General Guidelines
- All volunteer opportunities are at our clinic in Chamblee, GA.
- Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older.
- Volunteers must be able to commit to a minimum of 8 hours/month for a minimum of 6 months.
Post-surgery Clinic Assistant
Position description: Post-surgery Clinic Assistants help the veterinary staff with the animals after surgeries are performed. Volunteers in this position are exposed to various cleaning agents. Animal contact is mostly with post-surgery animals in various stages of anesthesia. Volunteers must be able to work independently after trained, and use safe animal handling per WellPet protocols when working with the animals.
Duties include but are not limited to: moving animals from surgery to recovery area after surgery using safe animal handling protocols; helping to monitor the animals as they come out of anesthesia; cleaning and organizing the veterinary clinic after transporting animals; cleaning, wrapping and sanitizing veterinary surgery packs; assisting with laundry; sweeping and mopping. This position has varying levels of animal contact, and can be informative for those considering a career in the field of veterinary medicine.
Dates Available: year-round
Shifts: Monday through Friday, 12 noon - 3 p.m. No shifts available on Saturday and Sunday. Volunteers are scheduled for the same shift each week.
Time commitment: A weekly three-hour shift for a minimum of three months.
