Along with providing the highest level of care, WellPet is dedicated to helping manage costs for our clients. We manage patient care in a way that avoids unnecessary testing and treatments. With the exception of life-saving procedures, all recommended tests and treatments and their associated costs will be explained to you before they are performed. We believe that, despite the costs associated with advanced diagnostic testing, specialty level patient care can ultimately reduce veterinary health care costs by expediting diagnosis, treatment and patient recovery.
If you elect to pursue the procedures recommended by the doctor, your pet will receive a surgical appointment date and time. Patients admitted for surgery must arrive between 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. They are discharged between 1:oo pm and 5:30 pm the same day as admission. You will be contacted following completion of your pet’s surgery and at that time you will be assigned a pick-up time.
Surgical Best Practices for Your Pet
Our surgical center is fully equipped to provide the best possible veterinary care for your dog or cat. We follow industry best practices to ensure your pet’s safety during surgery, including:
- The use of isoflurane anesthesia and pain control medication
- Intraoperative monitoring of vital signs during surgery
- IV Catheterization (Recommended for all surgery patients but required for surgery patients ages 7 and over)
- Administration of intravenous fluids during surgery to keep your pet hydrated and ensure proper kidney function (if needed)
- Preoperative surgical blood work (Recommended for all surgery patients but required for surgery patients ages 7 and over )
What You Should Know Pre and Post Surgery
Prior to your pet’s scheduled surgery, we will provide you with instructions to follow to ensure your pet’s safety during the procedure. You can download the list here or view the instructions on our video page.
We only do outpatient surgeries, so your pet will be going home with you at the end of the scheduled surgery day. Before your pet is discharged, a technician will provide you with detailed information about the surgery and post-op care. A list of postoperative instructions customized to your pet’s specific needs will be printed on your invoice, as well as emergency contact numbers should you need them.
We understand that a surgery can be a stressful time for you and your pet, and we will do our best to reassure you through the process.
**WellPet Humane’s mission is to prevent economic euthanasia and non-lethal population control as an alternative to kill shelters. For that reason, it is our policy that any unaltered pet requiring surgery of any kind be spayed or neutered while under anesthesia.**
