Pets in Need of Funding

When an animal comes to WellPet in need of life-saving treatment, a grant request is issued by a WellPet doctor. If funds are available, surgery is performed. The owner or guardian must provide a copay to offset costs. The remainder of the cost is covered by the “LifeSaver Fund”. These animals are in serious trouble and often seen as emergencies, In order to save the pets life, WellPet underwrites the costs and performs the surgery. We then ask for donations to “pay it forward.” In this way we are able to replenish the LifeSaver Fund and respond to the next patient in need of critical care.

Arabelle is a sweet girl who was diagnosed with a serious uterine infection called pyometera. This condition is only resolved by an emergency spay. Arabelle’s owner is a full time student and wanted to make sure that this sweet girl got the right medical attention. After being turned away at another vet clinic, Arabelle found her way to WellPet where we spayed her and put her back on the road to good health.

Pretty Blue is a sweet lab mix who wasn’t acting quite right. A few months after being rescued by a family of 8, she began vomiting. After multiple visits at different clinics, surgery was the only answer. Even though the surgery went well, Pretty Blue wasn’t out of the woods yet. She still needed several days of supportive therapy and ongoing treatments before she made a full recovery.

This lovable Beagle named Darryl was recently rescued from the Atlanta Humane Society. Shortly after adoption, Darryl’s owner brought him to WellPet Humane concerned about his teeth and it was found he needed several extractions to prevent a potential abscess. His owner is an engineering student and SAT tutor and needed help with surgery costs. Since having his extractions, Darryl is much more comfortable and happy!

Cotton is an adorable Pomeranian who was brought to us with severe dental disease—needing several extractions. Cotton is a lifeline and a bundle of joy in his household—being a guide of support for his owner’s ailing parents, and his owner himself. Cotton is living much more comfortably post-surgery, and we hope continues to be a source of healing for his family.

This cutie Keshond is in need of surgery as she suffers from a tumor on her toe which is impairing her ability to walk. Princess definitely deserves the royal treatment, but her owner needs some help getting her there!

This sweet girl was brought to us after she took a tumble out of a window which resulted in a deep, wide, laceration on her left thigh. Her owner brought her to WellPet Humane immediately in search of help. Alaska had surgery with us and we hear she is recovering smoothly!

Coco is a sweet, senior shih tzu who was brought to us by his owner when he discovered Coco’s poor eye was not in very good shape. After taking a look at Coco, our medical staff determined that Coco would require surgery for his eye. However Coco’s dad is on social security with medical problems of his own and could not afford Coco’s procedure, Coco received the LifeSaver Fund Grant. Coco and his dad have been together 15 years—and with a little help, hopefully many more!

Stardust is a beautiful kitty that came to us because of hair loss on her tail. As it turns out, poor Stardust had fractured her tail somehow—leading to blood-loss and its eventual “death” of her tail. We’re here to help Stardust have the procedure she needs, and to lift the weight off of her owner’s shoulders (or in Stardust’s case—bottom!)

Sombe was in an altercation with another dog which lead to large cuts on his bottom. He is such a sweet and wonderful dog, my kids love him and play with him– he keeps my 2 year old nephew occupied. When Sombe was a puppy his dad attacked him and left him blind in his left eye. Two years later he developed seizures.” Sombe has had a very tough life in his 4 years of life, and is an important addition to his family. Sombe needs your help!

Ma Dukes was adopted by her owners in February of this year after they felt an instant connection with the sweet Staffordshire terrier. Ma Dukes was just skin and bones at 20 lbs when she first joined the family. Ma Dukes had been neglected, overbred, and used as a bait dog in her days before adoption. The first few months were rough, as Ma Dukes was heartworm positive, and suffered from demodex mange that made her scratch incessantly. After much love and care from her new parents, she began to gain weight, play, and be more comfortable around her new family and others. Ma Dukes is now 65 lbs and loves to eat! But unfortunately, sometimes pet parents are unaware of the dangers of what their pet can and cannot eat, and Ma Dukes was unknowingly fed a rib bone. Ma Dukes’ parents brought her straight to us and we discovered that Ma Dukes would need an exploratory surgery to remove shards of bone that remained in her stomach. It was then Ma Dukes’ was granted the LifeSaver Grant.
“She is not our pet, she is our daughter. We’ve invested so much time and love in this beautiful creature and she’s progressed so much and so well for so long that this can’t possibly be the end for her.”

Samantha is a sweet girl that came to us after being attacked by two other dogs. After being examined it was determined that she would have to undergo a major surgery to repair the several wounds she had received in the scuffle. Samantha seemed in very rough shape and her owner could not afford the medical bills that would incur—lifesaver grant to the rescue! With the grant’s help we were able to perform the surgery Samantha needed, and she did just fine! We’re happy to say Samantha is resting comfortably at home with her family.

Nike was given to his mom as a surprise gift this holiday season from her significant other. She was beyond excited—feeling filled with joy and an immediate connection with Nike! When she noticed Nike was not feeling well, she took him to his regular veterinarian, where they discovered an intestinal blockage. Soon after this diagnosis, Nike came to WellPet. After determining his need, we immediately transferred him to surgery for an exploratory surgery. His owners were worried, but severely determined to save their baby! Nike made it through the surgery, but has a long road to recovery ahead. “Nike is truly my best friend. He’s the first thing I look forward to in the morning, and he’s the reason I rush home at night.” Please donate to help with Nike’s surgery costs!

Asia’s dad has been through a lot – as a Veteran of the Iraq war, he lost his hearing in his left ear, and suffered a traumatic brain injury from an IED explosion. Asia is his service dog—helping him through difficult times in his life, being a source of calm with his depression and anxiety. Asia is a source of happiness at home, and even enjoys cuddling with her feline sibling. When Asia’s dad noticed she was bleeding, he brought her straight to us. It was determined that Asia had a pyometra—and she was immediately taken in for surgery. Asia is currently on the road to recovery, and with luck, will have many more years of being the staple of love in her family’s life!

Nymeria came to us with multiple issues—she had acquired a large laceration on her leg, as well as a hernia that needed a repair. This struck a blow with her owner, who would never had thought Nymeria would need such extensive care. “It would mean so much to me to have her life be better in any way, shape or form” her dad wrote. “Any help is a great help.”

Harley’s mom adopted Harley when he was just one year old. Harley has been a source of happiness in his mom’s life, making her smile constantly with his awesome personality (which we can attest to! Harley loves to purr and “make biscuits”). Harley is currently under our care for a serious urinary blockage. Harley’s mom has been through many hardships over the past year and a half such as job instability, paired with personal issues involving her significant other, whom she has not heard from in a month and a half due to the dangerous nature of his job. Harley’s treatment is going well, but he still has several more days of treatment to go through—and these costs add up! Harley is our most recent recipient of the lifesaver grant; we are hoping to raise $250 to help cover the cost of Harley’s hospitalization.

Meet Hope! Hope came to us yesterday after being attacked multiple times by her housemate. She has deep puncture wounds all over her little body from the other dog’s teeth as well as some very deep lacerations. Some of her wounds went untreated for about a week and now they are badly infected. Due to the large amount of swelling caused by all of Hope’s injuries she can barely walk and has to be hand fed. Her previous owners could not afford her care and have turned her over to WellPet Humane. She desperately needs surgery right away to repair her wounds. We will spay her as well. Her attacks were most likely provoked by the other un-spayed female in the home being dominant over Hope. We need your help to raise the funds for Hope’s surgery and continued treatment. Even after the surgery this poor baby will need quite a bit of time to heal before we can place her in a furever home. Let’s give this beautiful girl a real chance to know how it feels to have hope!

Another baby in need of help! This is Missy! For Missy and her mom it was love at first sight. When a friend moved away and could not keep her, Missy’s mom stepped in and welcomed her to her family. Missy was brought to us when her family noticed she wasn’t her usual self, too lethargic to do her usual wiggling around the house. Missy was diagnosed with a pyometra, a very serious infection of the uterus. As the only adult working in her home, Missy’s mom was unable to cover the costs of Missy’s procedure. We are hoping to raise $250 for the remainder of Missy’s surgery costs!

Meet Bump (or Bump Bump, as she is lovingly referred to!) Bump is her mom’s best friend—her “lap cat”. Bump is always by her side, bringing love and cheer into her mom’s life. This adorable kitty enjoys watching arts and crafts be made, and is the “little spoon” when cuddling each and every night. Bump was brought to us when her mom noticed she was not her usual self—being extremely lethargic and vomiting. She was seen at an emergency clinic where she had x-rays which showed a suspicious foreign body. This poor baby would need to go under a serious exploratory laparotomy surgery to find out just what is wrong with her. Due to financial struggles, Bump’s mom needs assistance with the surgery expenses, and we are hoping to raise $250 to help Bump Bump!

Meet Biscuit! Biscuit has been with her mom since birth—she is her joy, her companion, and best friend. Biscuit is able to detect when her mom, who is disabled and on a fixed income, is about to have a painful seizure. This is lifesaving when she is operating a vehicle or doing something that requires her full attention. The lifesaving roles were reversed when Biscuit was brought to us on Friday while having severe dystocia– complications during her unplanned puppy delivery. Biscuit underwent emergency surgery that same afternoon performed by Dr. Hill—she and technician staff staying over time to ensure Biscuit’s care that night. Being on a fixed income, Biscuits mother was unable to cover all of the surgery costs. We are hoping to raise $250 to help with Biscuit’s remaining medical bills!
