In addition to WellPet’s normal generous discount for products, the manufacturer Elanco is offering an additional $15 and $50 rebate for an unbeatable deal. All together the Have A Heart program offers a 45% savings for heartworm prevention. The program will run Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays NOW through December at WellPet.
Heartworm disease is a serious, progressive illness that is potentially fatal in dogs. It is epidemic in Georgia. It is caused by worms that grow up to a foot long and live in a dog’s heart and lungs. The disease is spread when mosquitoes bite infected dogs, then—once infected—bite other dogs. Although easy to prevent, heartworm disease continues to be a major health problem for dogs in Georgia. Georgia sadly, ranks No. 9 in the United States for heartworm disease.
Almost two-thirds of dogs in the U.S. are given no preventives at all, according to studies conducted by heartworm medication manufacturers. Among those dogs on prevention medication, far too many are only given medication in spring and summer, when the mosquitoes that transmit heartworm larvae are more active. Because weather is warmer for longer periods in the south, mosquitoes can survive and create ample opportunity to infect dogs year round. If you ever see or get bitten by mosquitoes, your dog is at risk!
WellPet Humane has partnered with Elanco, manufacturers of Trifexis® to offer an easy to administer once-a-month pill providing three-in-one parasite protection that prevents heartworms, kills fleas and prevents intestinal worms. Year-round protection is highly recommended. Puppies should start heartworm protection by the time they are 8 weeks old.
The Have A Heart program emphasizes heartworm PREVENTION. Why? Heartworm testing is safe, simple and effective. The earlier it is detected, the better the chances the pet will recover and have a normal life. While supplies last, testing is FREE with a 6 or 12 month purchase of Trifexis® parasite protection (about $ 13/$15 per month. a fraction of the price for treatment). If a dog is diagnosed with heartworm infection, WellPet Humane can offer an affordable TREATMENT plan to kill the adult heartworms and help minimize complications. Normally, a heartworm treatment plan can cost $1,000 or more. At WellPet, a treatment plan can cost $270 to $725 depending on the weight of the dog.
WellPet Humane’s mission is to offer affordable veterinary care to those who are financially struggling. We work to be an alternative to “economic euthanasia” and save companion animal lives.
